Engineering the “Power Split”
1. The Hex Shaft Solution
In inter-row cultivation, the spacing between rows varies by crop (e.g., 50cm for soy, 90cm for cotton). A fixed driveshaft won’t work. Our Central Gearbox features Hollow or Solid Hexagonal Output Shafts. This allows the individual row unit gearboxes to slide along the hex shaft to any position required by the farmer. The hexagonal profile transmits high torque without the weakness of keyways, allowing for infinite adjustability across the toolbar width.
2. Thermal Dissipation in Enclosed Frames
Cultivators often have shields to protect the crop leaves. This restricts airflow around the central gearbox. We design our CD-Series with Optimized Internal Oil Flow and heavy external ribbing. The oil circulation ensures that heat generated at the meshing point is transferred to the casing walls, keeping the operating temperature below 95°C even in static air conditions.
3. Spiral Bevel Precision
Splitting 150HP into two directions puts immense stress on the central pinion. We use Engranajes cónicos espirales manufactured on Gleason CNC machines. The curved tooth profile ensures that at least two teeth are always in contact, providing smooth power transfer and reducing the noise level—a critical factor for operator comfort during long shifts.
4. Rear PTO Pass-Through
Many cultivators also apply fertilizer simultaneously. This requires a pump or mechanical distributor. Our Central Gearbox includes an optional Eje pasante (Eixo Passante) at the rear. This allows the PTO power to pass through the box to drive a fertilizer hopper or pneumatic fan behind the cultivator, creating a compact, multi-function implement.

Sugarcane Ratooning (São Paulo)
Cultivating sugarcane ratoons involves breaking heavy, compacted soil layers with trash residue. This generates severe shock loads. Our CD-Series gearboxes are reinforced with Oversized Output Bearings to handle the lateral bending forces transmitted through the drive shaft when the outer row units hit hardpan soil.

1. Can I reverse the rotation direction?
Yes. The Central Gearbox is symmetrical. By mounting the crown gear on the opposite side of the pinion during assembly (a factory option), we can reverse the rotation of the output shafts. This is useful for front-mounted cultivators.
2. What size hex shaft fits this gearbox?
Standard options are 41mm, 50mm, and 60mm Hex. We also offer splined outputs (DIN 5480) for heavy-duty applications. We recommend 50mm Hex for 8-row sugarcane cultivators.
3. Does the gearbox include overload protection?
The central gearbox does not contain an internal clutch. Overload protection MUST be provided by a Slip Clutch (Embreagem) on the main PTO shaft. This protects the central box and all downstream row units from rock impacts.
4. Is it compatible with folding frames?
Yes. For folding frames, the central gearbox drives two short shafts connected to U-joints at the hinge points. We supply specific output flanges to accept these U-joints instead of a solid through-shaft.
