Turning Waste into Wealth: The Mechanical Challenge

Brazil is a global powerhouse in animal protein production. With the explosion of intensive feedlots (Confinamento) in Goiás and large-scale poultry farming in Santa Catarina, the management of organic waste has become a critical logistical operation. The Manure Spreader (Distribuidor de Esterco / Espalhador de Estrume) is the machine tasked with returning these nutrients to the soil.
This machine relies on two distinct but synchronized drivetrain systems. First, the Beater Gearbox (Rear Discharge) drives the vertical or horizontal beaters that shred the compacted manure. Second, the Apron Drive Gearbox moves the floor chains to push the heavy load (often 10 to 20 tons) towards the beaters.
The operating environment is hostile. The gearboxes must endure extreme torque spikes when a stone or frozen lump enters the beaters, and they must resist the highly corrosive nature of uric acid and ammonia found in manure. EVER-POWER’s MS-Series (Manure Spreader) gearboxes are built with nodular cast iron housings and chemically resistant seals to survive where standard agricultural boxes fail.

Engineering the “Shredder”
1. Vertical vs. Horizontal Beaters
In Brazil, Vertical Beaters are preferred for “Cama de Frango” (Poultry Litter) and pen manure because they provide a wider spread pattern (up to 12m). This requires a T-Box that splits power 90 degrees to drive the base of the beaters. Horizontal Beaters are used for lighter materials. Our RT-Series is modular, adaptable to both configurations via interchangeable output shafts and mounting flanges.
2. Shock Load Management
Manure often contains stones, fence posts, or frozen lumps. When a beater hits an obstruction at 600 RPM, the kinetic energy must go somewhere. We integrate an Overrunning Clutch (Free Wheel) and a Shear Bolt Yoke on the input shaft. The shear bolt acts as a fuse, snapping instantly to disconnect power, while the free wheel allows the heavy beaters to spin down gradually, preventing back-drive damage to the tractor PTO.
3. Corrosion-Proof Sealing
Ammonia is a seal killer. It hardens standard NBR rubber, causing it to crack and leak. EVER-POWER utilizes premium FKM (Viton) Seals as standard on all manure spreader gearboxes. Furthermore, we install a steel “Slinger Shield” on the output shaft. This physical barrier rotates with the shaft, throwing wet manure away from the seal face by centrifugal force.
4. Thermal Capacity
Spreading 15 tons of manure takes time and power. The gearbox runs hot. Our housings feature extended cooling fins and a larger oil sump capacity (up to 5.5 Liters) compared to competitors. This increased thermal mass keeps the oil temperature stable, preventing viscosity breakdown during long shifts in the Brazilian summer heat.

Localized Application: Brazil Agri-Business
Feedlots (Goiás)
Large feedlots generate tons of heavy, wet cattle manure daily. The machines run continuously. Our Planetary Apron Drives offer the extreme torque (12,000 Nm) needed to push 20-ton loads of wet slurry without stalling, replacing older worm gear units that overheated.
Poultry Litter (Santa Catarina)
Poultry litter is lighter but drier and more corrosive. Precision spreading is key to avoid nitrogen burn. Our RT-Series Beater Boxes run at higher speeds (1000 input / 800 output) to finely shred the litter, providing a wide, uniform spread pattern ideal for top-dressing pastures.
📒 Field Engineer’s Log: The “Frozen” Floor
“August 2025, Ponta Grossa, PR. A customer called saying his apron chain snapped. It was a cold morning (2°C). He had left a full load of wet manure in the spreader overnight.”
“The manure had frozen solid to the steel floor. When he engaged the hydraulic apron drive, the AD-50 Gearbox produced so much torque that it snapped the 16mm floor chains instantly. The gearbox itself was undamaged.
Solution: We advised the customer to install a Hydraulic Relief Valve set to the chain’s breaking limit (load sensing). This acts as a safety fuse. We also recommended our ‘High-Torque’ chain kit. The gearbox proved it was stronger than the rest of the machine.”

Frequently Asked Questions (OEM/B2B)
1. Can I convert a mechanical apron drive to hydraulic?
Yes. We supply a complete “Apron Conversion Kit” which includes the AD-Series Gearbox (hollow shaft), torque arm, and a compatible Danfoss/Eaton hydraulic motor. You simply remove the old ratchet mechanism and slide our gearbox onto the drive shaft.
2. What is the difference between Worm and Planetary apron drives?
Worm drives (AD-W series) are self-locking (safety) and cheaper but less efficient (get hot). Planetary drives (AD-P series) are extremely efficient and powerful but more expensive and require a separate brake valve to prevent rollback. We offer both.
3. Do you sell the PTO shafts with shear bolts?
Yes, for the Beater Gearbox, we highly recommend our Shear Bolt PTO Shaft or a Cam Clutch Shaft. This protects the gearbox gears from shock loads if a stone jams the beaters.
4. How often should I change the gearbox oil?
For the Beater Box (RT-Series), change oil every season or 500 hours. For the Apron Drive (Worm), if using synthetic PAG oil, it is often “Sealed for Life,” but checking levels annually is recommended.
