1. The “Duo-Cone” Seal Necessity
Standard rubber lip seals fail instantly in rice paddies. The abrasive silica paste wears grooves into the shaft. EVER-POWER utilizes Sellos mecánicos flotantes (Duo-Cone). These consist of two lapped metal rings spinning against each other, sealed by O-rings. This metal-on-metal seal is impenetrable to mud and water, similar to the final drives of excavators.
2. Steering via Power Cut
A boat tractor has no front wheels to steer. Steering is achieved by skid-steering logic. Our gearbox contains independent Side Clutches (Dog Clutches). When the operator pulls the left lever, the left paddle wheel disengages and brakes, causing the boat to pivot left. This mechanism must be robust enough to handle thousands of cycles per day in a muddy environment.
3. Hybrid Reduction System
To achieve the massive torque needed to turn paddle wheels in dense mud, a single gear stage is insufficient. We use a hybrid system: A primary Gear Reduction stage takes the high-speed input, followed by a heavy-duty Internal Chain Drive (ASA 100 Duplex) for the final slow-speed output. The chain provides a degree of shock absorption when the paddles hit submerged logs.
4. Thermal Paradox
Usually, gearboxes overheat. In a boat tractor, the gearbox is often submerged in cool water, which aids cooling. However, if the mud dries on the housing, it acts as an insulator. 1. Can I use a standard tractor transmission oil?
No. Boat tractors operate at low speeds but high contact pressures. We recommend high-viscosity SAE 90 or SAE 140 gear oil with “tackifiers” that stick to the gears even when submerged/cooled. Do not use hydraulic/transmission fluid (UTTO) as it is too thin.
2. How does the steering brake work?
The gearbox has internal band brakes on the output shafts. When you disengage the dog clutch for the left side, the brake simultaneously engages (if adjusted correctly), stopping the left paddle. The right paddle continues to drive, pivoting the boat.
3. Are parts interchangeable with the ‘Tobatta’ style boxes?
